Screaming Into the Void: In Which Bryan Starts a Substack
Why?
I don’t know, this just seems like the thing to do right now.
I have a lot of experience with screaming into the void. I’ve done it now for over 30 years, and for some of those years people have listened, granted many of those were a captive audience in a classroom, but still, it counts.
Honestly:
I have a lot I want to say, and even if no one reads it, or listens, or cares, or agrees it sometimes feels nice just to get these thoughts out of my head onto someplace else.
I care about a lot of things, probably too much if I’m being honest. I hyper-fixate on things that seem endless and maddening at times. I’m going to write about many of those things here, in no sensible order: history, politics, education, literature, writing, fiction, parenting, climate doom, and the like.
Community?
Yes Please!
I don’t know if anyone will ever actually read anything I write, but maybe, there are some people who could care about the thoughts in my head sponge and maybe add something meaningful to this overall discussion. I wouldn’t mind finding like-minded folks who are interested in the things I am, even if you disagree with my thoughts on those things!
Be specific
Well fine, Substack, jeez! I guess I could be less vague.
Here are some things that might tell you if you’ll like me or not:
I am a father.
I am a writer (who is desperately searching for time to write, hence: this)
I am a teacher of English and Social Studies.
I enjoy reading a lot, (I’ll likely talk about this quite a bit.)
I enjoy studying and analyzing history and politics.
I am in a constant state of climate anxiety.
I’m going to write about the things I think about and the things I care about. I’ll try to make it good.
Maybe Subscribe?
If you want to read some of these things, on a periodic basis (when I get around to it) subscribe to my substack!
I’ll be honest, I’ll try to post something at least once a week, but life is hard and I am tired.
Here’s a picture of me in the snow, because Substack said I should include a picture. You’re welcome.
